Ever felt your steering wheel start to vibrate like a smartphone on silent mode? Or noticed your car drifting toward the curb even though you’re trying to drive straight?
At Big Box Cars, we hear about these issues all the time. Often, drivers know something is "off" with their tyres, but they aren't sure if they need an alignment or a balance. While they sound similar, they are actually two very different services that solve two very different problems.
Think of it this way: Alignment is about how the wheels are pointed; Balance is about how the wheels spin.
Wheel alignment (sometimes called "tracking") isn't actually an adjustment of the tyres themselves. It’s an adjustment of your car’s suspension system the magic hardware that connects the vehicle to its wheels.
When your car is properly aligned, your tyres sit flat on the road and point exactly where they should. Over time, hitting potholes, bumping curbs, or general wear and tear can knock things out of whack.
Wheel balancing corrects the uneven distribution of weight in the wheel/ tyre assembly. No tyre or rim is perfectly symmetrical; there’s always a heavy spot or a light spot that needs to be compensated for.
Ignoring these two services is a recipe for a drained bank account. When your wheels aren't aligned or balanced:
If your car is pulling, think Alignment. If your car is shaking, think Balance. If you’re experiencing both? It’s definitely time for a professional check-up to keep your ride smooth and safe.

A better way to buy and sell used cars.
